Why would I want to connect to my IxE when my laptop is on eduroam or RedRover? Why not just connect to DeviceFarm?
To reduce network load. When were are all in class, the router cannot handle 50 Raspberry Pi's and 50 laptops at once. To reduce the load on our poor little router, we have set up Port Forwarding for all the Pi's. This means that you can connect to your specific Pi using a predetermined port number, 122[00] for ssh and 280[00] for http web service).
