The 'Hungry Old Man' Encounter is the 17th encounter in the throne room, it can only occur if the player allows rabble into their court and if the player doesn't have the alms for the poor law enacted nor is a slave kingdom.

There are 9 possible different sub encounters that this encounter can be

• you are visited by an old man, who asks you if you could spare a few coins as the man cannot eat (wants between 3 and 6 gold)

• you are visited by an old man, he asks if you could spare some coins as his stockpile of grain has rotted and he has no food (wants between 9 and 17 gold)

• you are visited by an old man, who says someone stole his food, he has nothing left and is starving, he begs for a few coins (wants between 3 and 7 gold)

• you are visited by an old man, who asks you if you could spare a few coins as his family is starving (wants between 19 and 32 gold)

• you are visited by an old man who is collecting money for his village after their crops have failed, he seems desperate (wants between 40 and 109 gold)

• you are visited by an old man, who asks you if you could spare a few coins as the man is starving (wants between 4 and 7 gold)

• you are visited by an old man, who asks you if you could spare a few coins as the mans dog is starving and there is no game in the wild (wants between 2 and 3 gold)

• you are visited by an old man, who asks you if you could spare a few coins as he and his family had to resort to eating their family dog (wants between 3 and 5 gold)

• you are visited by an old man, who asks you if you could spare a few coins as he and his 12 kids are starving (wants between 15 and 49 gold)

Your options are as follows

• Give him the gold (10% chance of +1 public opinion)
• Give him 10x the gold (50% chance of +1 public opinion)
• Give him nothing (10% chance of -1 public opinion)
• To the dungeons with him (+1 prisoner)(25% chance of +1 public opinion)
