The Old Temple
Introduction
The Old Temple is a side area, entrance to which is located on the 14th floor of the dungeon. The big opened entrance stands in the middle of one of the rooms of the floor. The Compass Trinket only finds the path on main branch. So in this place, it will not be activated.
The Temple consists of 5 floors - 4 standard and the 5th floor with the puzzle. The entrance to the Temple will collapse when you defeat boss of the Cave area or exit the Temple after completing the Temple quest line, so it is advised to explore and loot the 4 floors and bring anything worth value up to the 14th floor, before fighting the Cave area Boss. Do not leave important items in the Temple, such as bags, waterskin or Hero-unique items, as there will be no way of getting them back.
Rooms
Among standard key-locked and puzzle rooms, the floor design pattern includes three main types of rooms - libraries, gardens and vaults.
1. Library room
The Libraries are similar to those, one might find in the Dwarfen City, but much bigger in size and amount. The Library rooms serve as the main source of scrolls of the area, as interconnecting Bookshelfs allow one to burn many of them with a single Fire potion or Ignition spells. Although, one must be cautious, not to set fire to the Gardens.
2. Garden room
The Garden rooms are vast, maze-like square rooms, filled with tall grass. They serve as the source of Dew and Seeds of the area. Often, the staircase to the next floor of the Temple can be found in the centre of one of the Garden rooms. The enemies can be spawned and stay asleep within the vegetation, so the caution is advised.
3. Vault room
The Vault rooms are mostly empty, with a big chasm in the middle. In the centre of the chasm, suspended on plus-shaped bridges (+), stand platforms with reward Chests. The Chests are surrounded by statues from all sides and cannot be interacted with on one's descend (check needed - possible with the Chains Artifact?). The access to the chests is granted upon finishing the 5th floor puzzle after which chests can be opened on ascension. It is sometimes possible for an enemy to spawn on the Chest tile, making it trapped between the statues.
Enemies
The Temple is populated by enemies from the Cave area - bats, Brute and Shaman Gnolls, and Cave Spinners. The DM200 and its rare counterpart do not spawn within the Temple. The Mimics, Piranias and Livings Statues all can spawn the same way as in the main dungeon. The Puzzle at the 5th floor of the Temple uses system of traps that spawn enemies, list of which includes Brute and Shaman Gnolls and Wardens from the 2nd area.
Final floor
The Puzzle Floor. Upon arriving to the last floor of the Temple, one will find themselves standing in the middle of a large hall with several doors and many Crystal Guards. Latter are responsible for spawning endless amount of enemies. The spawn rate is not that big by default, but if the character is standing on the Wooden Floor tile, the spawn rate will increase, similarly how does the Haste puzzle of the regular dungeon works.
The bottom door opens a room to a small alchemical Cauldron, with no Crystal energy in it. It can be used to spend collected resources for a solution items for the floor's puzzles.
At the top of the hall is a corridor, blocked by 4 crystal keys. The keys are locked away in golden chests within four corners of the floor, each protected by a system of Blue Crystal Guards. The amount of Blue Crystals in each room is overwhelming, so it is not advised to try to rush through the puzzle.
After acquiring all crystal keys and opening the lockes corridor, one can access the Old Amulet - the goal item of the Temple area. The Amulet requires a space slot in the inventory to be held, but even simply touching it triggers the Temple destruction sequence. One now must ascend to escape the Temple.
The Old Amulet is a quest reward items, which enhances or changes a unique item of a character. In some cases, the item changed is not a character unique, but a related to them in a way (Ring for a Rogue, any melee weapon for a Duelist). At the moment, not every character has an item transformation change completed, the ones affected can be found at the Recipes page.
