An emotional search engine, and a web-based artwork. Search blogs, social networks for phrase "I feel...", or "I am feeling..." --> Index the data --> User explore data --> Aware of sympathy, same feeling, .etc

Principles for design consideration:

  • Sentence-level analysis

  • Sentiment as the primary organizing
  • De-emphasizing ranking
  • Emphasizing browsing and summarization
  • Enabling the user to easily shift between macro and micro
  • Visualization that reflect the data
  • Direct access to the data
    Architect: 5 modules: Crawler(search the web), Indexer(index the data), DataStore(data storage), Web Server(communication between modules), Client Application

User study: Ask 10 males, 10 females age from 18 - 65 to explore the website without instruction --> Comment, and Interview. Result : no comment on UI, but mostly about the emotion aspect, how they feel same as the bloggers, ...

Develop a multi-agent model for sound visualization : Computer art + nature-inspired multi-agent system.
Sound represented by source of light, attract fireflies. And when fireflies get close to light sources, they get more energy, become brighter and live longer.
Use Reynolds' boids algorithm for fireflies visualization. Use Minim lib in Processing for sound analysis.
Sound analysis : frequency(vertical position), amplitude(size), and duration.
Fireflies(agent) : boids algorithm, interact with light source and neighbor. Vision angle 30degree, depth of view is 150 pixel --> move in group, and keep a safe distance from each other.

Different songs --> different pattern of fireflies swarm.

Interaction UI use water. System consist of Kinect, Projector, PC, and Water table top. Detect user hands gesture --> interesting interaction scenarios, use in game, entertainment, especially in Japan, where people spend a long time enjoy bathtub.
