I. Articles Summary

1. Kodama, Sachiko. "Dynamic ferrofluid sculpture: organic shape-changing art forms." Communications of the ACM 51.6 (2008): 79-81.

Kinetic Art : Artworks with characteristic:shape changes dynamically. In this paper, the author presented 2 kinetic art installations that change shape to reflect the change of the surrounding. She used ferrofluid (very interesting material, shape changing according to electro-magnetics field).

Ferrofluid forms spikes along magnetic field line --> The author modified the power of electro-magnetic to change shape of ferrofluid. Sensor was also used to take input from the change in the environment. link to video

Morpho Tower

Personal Comment: The artist did a wonderful job in combining sensor, electro-magnetic and ferrofluid to visualize the ever-changing environment around us. The artworks are not only beautiful, but also engaging since it facilitate participant interaction with it. --> Personal idea: use ferrofluid to visual sound or RF signal.

2. Ban, Yuki, et al. "Air haptics: displaying feeling of contact with AR object using visuo-haptic interaction." ACM SIGGRAPH 2015 Emerging Technologies. ACM, 2015.

This paper presents Air Haptic: a system helps to have a sense when interacting with virtual object in AR environment.
Most of the haptic systems developed use physical devices, but this system use visual feedback to create then sense of touching with virtual object. The system uses an algorithm that replaces the hands of actor by virtual ones when they interact with object.
visuo-haptic

Personal Comment: The system look promising when apply to collaborative environment, or in design review session.

3. Perspective Lyrique - 1024 Architecture : Interactive Projection Mapping installation

The project uses audiences' voice to control the dynamic display of projection.

II. Abstract Invention

David Bomberg
In the hold
City life --> art, but not photographic, but expressive. Scene of dockers --> shattered --> dynamic composition What I like : The randomness, but not totally random distribution of color: bright in the center, dark in the corner. Also the pattern of square and diagonal square. --> Try to reproduce this composition on 3D object.
