Using this application is very simple. Select your CV in .pdf format, and press the upload button.
The application will then give you feedback and information regarding the CV you uploaded, namely:
a. Impact
This section informs the user of the following:
- Quantifying impact
Use number and metrics to illustrate a more impactful CV.
- Unique action verbs
The system will detect whether you overuse a certain verb, and will give suggestions on its replacements.
- Weak action verbs
Swap "weak" language with strong, compelling action verbs.
- Avoid responsibility-oriented language
Focus on accomplishments, not responsibilities
- Spell check
The system will detect typos and misspellings that could heavily impact your chances of being shortlisted.
b. Brevity
This section informs the user of the following:
- Resume length
An ideal resume are generally between 450-650 words long and consist of 1-2 pages.
- Use of bullet points
Convert your paragraphs into bullet points.
- Bullet point length
Ensure your bullet points are the right length.
- Filler words
Remove superfluous words that have little impact on your resume.
c. Style
- Contains sections
Your resume needs to contain appropriate sections, e.g. educational background and work experience
- Buzzwords or clichés
Detects vague buzzwords that add little value to your resume.
- Personal Pronouns
Remove any personal pronouns/articles from your resume.
- Passive Voice
Avoid using passive voice in your bullet points.
- Inconsistencies
Ensure bullet points and dates are consistent in formatting and punctuation.
d. Skills
- Soft skills
Make sure your resume lists your soft skills, e.g. communication and analytical skills
- Hard technical skills
Hard skills refer to technical skills and industry knowledge that a specific job requires. For example, an accountant's resume will have different hard skills than a software developer's.
