Concept Statement - Hexadoon/Unearthly-Souls-Postal-Service GitHub Wiki

The player takes the role of a damned spirit who, in hopes of lessening their sentence in hell, was hired by the Grim Reaper to man the Purgatory Post Office, which handles the communications between Heaven and Hell. The spirit is responsible for making sure that no nefarious mail or packages makes it to either side.

The spirit’s job starts off easy enough; sort the letters that come through the office into their appropriate mailboxes. But as the spirit grows in their abilities as the postmaster, they also gain new responsibilities. For instance, in addition to sorting all of the letters that come through the office, the player must also check every package as well, ensuring that nothing dangerous passes through to Heaven or Hell. Eventually, the player receives more and more duties to complete in the same amount of time.

The game functions as a timed sorting and organization puzzle, with the player being required to complete the increasing number of tasks in the same amount of time as the first round, marked as the beginning and the end of the workday.

Correctly completed tasks earn the player points, while missed tasks take away points from the player. By the end of the “workday,” for every mistake that the player makes, the sentence of their damnation is lessened. Meeting the point quota, however, earns time off of their sentence. As the game progresses, the player will learn more about the afterlife, their new boss, and even more about themselves.
