After opening the application the user will see the main screen with six buttons in the top left corner and two empty screens. Once the user plugs in the kinect device, the user will get a live video from the kinect on the left screen.

Exit - Use this to close the program

Create - Use this to create a new 3d model. The application will record several seconds of video from the Kinect. When taking a video the camera should stay stationary while the object is rotated. The first frame will be used to create a 3d model, which will now appear in the right hand screen (as shown above).

Update - By clicking update, a user can add additional points to the 3d model from the next frame in the recorded video. Note: You cannot update a file loaded from disk. The model must be created in this session. In addition, update takes longer as more points are added.

Revert - Revert the last Update action, if possible.

Save - Use this to open you computer's native file manager to save your point cloud.

Load - Use this to open your computer's native file manager to load a 3d model on disk. You may only interact with the 3d model on the right screen and cannot update the points on this model.

Upload - Use this to upload your 3d model to the Midas server. After clicking this button you will see the popup appear below.

Main Window

Server URL: Enter the url of the server you wish to save your 3d model to. (For example http://dpbld04a.cs.unc.edu).

API Application Name: Put in 'Scanner' for default.

E-mail: Put in the email address you used to create an account on the server. The user must make an account on the website first.

API Key: This will be the default key that the user receives after creating an account.

File Description: This is extra information that you want to give to the model.

After filling out the required information and clicking 'Ok', the user should receive a new popup such as below.

By clicking on the tab you can brings up all the folders and communities where you can save the 3d model. Once you click 'Ok' the model will be uploaded to the server in the designated location.

Interacting with the 3d Model

With a 3d model in the right screen a user can rotate the image by holding down the right click and dragging the mouse in the desired rotating direction.
