Welcome to the RPI2JAMMA_JUST4FUN wiki!

The story begin...

First Contact

RPI2JAMMA seems to be an hardware component which is able to be plugged into an Arcade Cabinet. This HW Component converts a Raspberry PI to a JAMMA compliant card.

I have bought the card to a friend of mine in France. Thanks to him :) (@Skeletor)

To operate wit RPI2JAMMA, you need :

  • A Raspberry PI
  • A SDCard with a specific kind of image (more details just beyond)
  • An arcade cabinet (^^)

Case of the Operating system

Operating system is a kind of Debian packaged with some specifics configuration and options. Perhaps I will take a look on the hardware himself but, for the moment, i will study the operating system and the story begin with a RAR file containing a Linux image.

RAR File, where are u ?

First thing a little bit curious, i don't have found any website where is possible to download the RAR file containing Linux image. My HW comes with the "B11" version of the custom debian OS (Seems to be Raspbian). But, after some searches, i found that the last available version was the B13 (as i write, December 27th 2018).

Fortunately, Zkeletor has helped me to get the last version ! Here we go .

RPI2XXXXX_aje_fr_B13.rar

This .rar contains a dot img. To operate with the RPI2JAMMA, you need to write this image to the SDCARD. But in my case, i prefer to open the beast to see how deep the rabbit hole goes (yes i'm a poetry and a matrix' fan).

Aje_fr

It seems to be the maker of RPI2JAMMA system . He owns GitHub projects ( https://github.com/ajefr ) , but nothing about the RP2JAMMA rar content . Too bad, that's really a great project ! (and based on topics talking about raspberry pi, it seems that the author has obtained help from others :/ https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/issues/637 ).

But anyway, thanks to him for that ! :)

Some topics on the internet seems to indicate that the project starts on 2016.

There is many (c)aje_fr on files including on the config.txt. That's really strange, as (I guess) :

  • aje_fr (what a detective i am xD) seems to be french (and 'copyright / (c)' has no legal value in France)
  • you can't "copyright" a configuration file especially if it comes from a GPL project :/
  • aje's project used many tools, program, OS (Raspbian) under MIT or GPL licence (why (c) if you take advantage of Open source projects ? :/)
  • some tools are already copyrighted (vcgencmd is Broadcom copyright)

Emulator and plenty of games !

Just a personal thought pulled from my experience and 30 years in the Arcade world...

... The more games you have, the less you play ^^
