Core Statement

We aim to create a pleasurable and educational interactive experience that aims to introduce people to game development through play. A successful project would engage and develop the player’s logical and lateral thinking, artistic sensibilities and creative reasoning skills without directly presenting itself as an educational game. We want the player to feel as if they’re getting good at programming. We want them to go through common thought patterns that a programmer goes through but in a playful, directed and confined way.

Game Description

Play as a curious adventurer embarking on their most eye-opening journey as they explore a mysterious island from legends past to uncover the dark truths about their world. Soon they come to realize the realities of their world, that they are stuck within a simulation built within a game engine for the mere enjoyment of a target market. Even worse, it isn't even a “good game” and their world will soon be in danger of deletion if the game isn’t fixed and the world set straight. Together with their friends they must cunningly steal away admin privileges to edit the various states and properties of the world at large, and fix the mess they have been left with. This self-aware adventurer will not be defeated so easily, through directly manipulating the logic of their enemies and obstacles to exploring and editing worldly objects, this is one game that might be completed on schedule! Through open ended puzzle design and creative use of your tools, can you turn this game into a successful hit?

Game Pillars

  • Exploration: the player will explore the world to find new areas and items, scavenging blocks of code to progress in the adventure.
  • Logic Editing: the player will access elements in the world such as objects, enemies or items and “re-program” them using predefined blocks of “code” that they can scavenge from the environment in order to solve gameplay scenarios. The puzzles focus on expressive multi-solution logic design.
  • Game Development Bugs: puzzles and mechanics must adhere to the themes of game development at the low level interactions and puzzle designs space, in that any scenarios and puzzles designed must be contextualised within the realm of actual game bugs, how they can occur and the possible ways they can be fixed.
