AI/LMM accounts in the Hansen Group and at UCPH
This page provides an overview of how to get access to various AI assistant / Large Language Models (LLMs).
For discussion see the Hansen Slack channel #support-ai.
Free accounts
As part of UCPH, you have access to different Large Language Models (LLMs) for free.
Microsoft Copilot
The official guideline from UCPH is to use Microsoft copilot (due to privacy and data sharing concerns).
You can sign up here: https://kunet.ku.dk/employee-guide/Pages/IT/Artificial-intelligence.aspx?searchHitHighlight=Copilot#1
Note, this Microsoft Copilot account only works in the browser and not in desktop apps.
Github Copilot
As part of UCPH you can an upgraded version of Github pilot.
You need to apply for education benefits here: https://github.com/settings/education/benefits. PhD students can apply for student status and Postdocs/Assitant Profs/Researchers can apply for teacher status. Your KU mail should eb automatically validated, but you will need to upload a photo of the front of your ID card. The application process takes up to a couple of days.
The upgraded Github Copilot accounts gives you access to a limited numbers of requests from advanced Claude moduls like Opus that can be used in Visual studio / Positron.
Google Gemini
Google occasionally has campaigns with free Gemini accounts for students: Both PhDs, Postdocs and Assistant Professors/Researchers can usually apply.
Paid accounts
OpenAI ChatGPT
The Hansen Group pays for 1-2 shared ChatGPT plus accounts. See the pinned messages on #support-ai for how to log on to these.
The official account holders (currently Thomas and Evelina) will need to approve you the first time you log in.
Note, that the shared ChatGPT account will sometimes be logged if it detects "suspicious" activity, e.g. multiple people logging in from different locations. To avoid this, you should always use the shared ChatGPT accounts while on the UCPH VPN if you are working from home/abroad.
A useful feature is making a project with your own name on the shared account so all of your own conversations and settings are stored in a single convenient location.
Anthropic Claude
We are in the process of migrating from ChatGPT to Claude, updates to follow...
