Perhaps shaped by the lingering memory of the stars in its newborn eyes, the first other creatures to inhabit Impart Tell's world were beings of pure light. Alien, unreachable watchers who offered no comfort but the certainty of their gaze. We call them stars, still, and the majority of them have returned to being just that -- the repetitive force of non-contact reducing them to points in the sky. Others are spiteful enough to have retained some semblance of self, remembered by Impart for their imperiousness if nothing else. Liches, before the word came to have any meaning. Before there was air through which the sound could travel.

It was the star, Pelor, who broke the stand off between Impart and their observers, born of the desire for contact and reprieve from endless equilibrium. In a union indescribable through language alone, helium and fire met the swift-running sea. From the combination of two elements came the possibility of a third, and a fourth, then a fifth in expanding multiplicity. From collision came chemistry, nascence, and opportunity.
