MOTOR SIZING
Stepper Motor Calculation
1.Dimensions of Inner Disk= 13 cm radius and 0.5 cm thickness

Density of Acrylic sheet=1.19 g cm^3

Volume of inner disk=3.1421313*0.5 =265.499 cm^3

Mass of inner disk=Volume x Density =265.499 x 1.19 =315.94 grams
- Dimensions of Aluminium Channel = 1.5cmx1.2cmx22.5

Volume of Aluminium Channel = 40.5 cm^3
-
Density of Aluminium = 2.7g cm^3
-
Mass of Channel=40.5 x 3 x 2.7 =328.05 grams

Mass of Motor = 240 grams
-
Total mass = 240 + 328.05 + 315.94 = 883.99 g = 0.883 kg
-
Torque = 0.883 * 1 = 0.883 kg cm
-
Total Torque = 0.883 x 1.5 = 1.32 kg cm
Thus, the motor suitable for our application is a 28BYJ-48 Unipolar Stepper Motor 5V.
DC Motor Calculation
- Dimensions of Outer Disk = 17.5 cm Radius and 0.5 cm Thickness

Density of Acrylic Sheet = 1.19 g cm^3

Volume of Outer Disk = 3.142 x 17.5 x 17.5 x 0.5 = 481.11 cm^3

Mass of Outer Disk = 481.11 x 1.19 = 572.53 grams
- Dimensions of Aluminium Channel = 2.5cm x 1.2 cm x 26 cm

Volume of Aluminium Channel = 2.5 x 1.2 x 26 = 78 cm^3

Total Volume = 78 x 3 = 234 grams

Density of Aluminium = 2.7 g/cm^3

Mass of Aluminium Channel = 234 x 2.7 = 631.8 grams

Mass of Motor = 300 grams

Total mass = 572.53 + 631.8 + 300 = 1504.33 grams

Torque = 1.5 kg × 1 cm

Total Torque = 1.5 × 1.5 = 2.25 kg cm
Thus, the suitable motor for our application is a 60 RPM -12 V , Low Noise DC Motor with Metal Gears - Grade A
Power Adapter Calculations
Let I be the total current required.
- Current (I) = ?
- Number of Motors (N)= 2 ( Stepper and DC)
- FOS = 1.2
- Current supply (I) for DC motor = 300 mA
- Current supply (I) for Stepper Motor = 300 mA
- I = i×N×FOS
- = (300+300) mA × 2 × 1.5
- = 1800 mA = 1.8 A
As per our Calculations,we are going to use Power Adaptor of Specifications 12V-2A.
