Introduction

Data visualisation for 2D data using SWT renderer. K2 is also tall mountain to climb, a challenge, but one which could provide an excellent view of the surrounding environment.

Prototyping Test Case

A test case of the viability of the K2 performance and constraints. K2 is the 2D data visualisation using SWT rendering. K2 is also tall mountain to climb, a challenge, but one which could provide an excellent view of the surrounding environment.

Objective:

Provide a Gumtree component that can render the specified data set on the specified platform, for purposes of evaluating ease of programming against SWT renderer, performance constraints, functionality constraints.

Test Input Data:

A multi-frame (map set) nexus data file, using double resolution floating point arrays.

Operations:

1. Render frame (slice of map set) 2. Enable navigation to other frames, rendering as required. 3. Allow addition of a mask box superimposed over the rendered frame. 4. Allow the mask parameters to be altered, and reflect the changes in the rendered image.

Platform:

Minimum OS: Windows XP or later Minimum JVM: Java 1.5 JRE ANSTO standard desktop hardware Toshiba Tecra pre-2009 (or similar) laptop

K2 Scoping Actions

Tasks that will elucidate the scope of work for improving 2D visualisation

Current Actions

Review and compile (using JIRA) the limitations and defects present in the current openGL implementation of 2D visualisation (Kuranda).
Locate and review the use cases and features specified for the original 2D visualisation package. Compile/modify the use cases, user features and developer API requirements that need to be met by any replacement of the openGL implementation.
