Ingredients
original recipe
- 3 cups flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 batch
- 4 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 1/4 sticks unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- preheat oven to 400 degrees
- put dry ingredients in mixing bowl
- cut butter into small pieces and add to dry ingredients, mix with hand to break butter into smaller pieces
- make a big indent in the middle of the ingredients, and pour buttermilk into indent. You want it to not touch the sides of the bowl. Start mixing in by pulling dough from the sides into the buttermilk
- Split into 3 (2 for original recipe) equal-ish parts, and smoosh them into flat-ish disks
- cut into four pieces
- Form pieces into tear drop-ish shapes, make a dent with thumb
- grease pan, put scones on pan
- Brush top of scones with water, and put a little bit of sugar on them
- Add a small scoop of jam to thumbprint
- Put in oven for 15 minutes
- Take them out, insert a knife into the side and check if they're cooked through.
