Ingredients
- 1.5lb of flank or skirt steak
- 1 white or red onion
- 2 jalapeños
- 2 fresno chili peppers
- 4-6 cloves of garlic
- 1 teaspoon of berbere
- 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- olive oil
Awaze sauce
- 3 tablespoons of berbere
- 1 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon of cumin
- 1/2 a teaspoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1/4 cup of water
Directions
Make awaze sauce
- Combine dry ingredients: berbere, black pepper, cumin, salt
- Add liquids: olive oil and water. I know 1/4 cup seems like a lot, it's not.
Chop and prep
- Make awaze sauce, set aside
- Combine salt, pepper, and berbere for steak
- Cut onion and peppers into strips like fajitas, cut the strips shorter about an inch, set aside
- Mince garlic, add to onion and peppers, set aside
- Cut steak into bite size pieces, set aside
Cook it
- Heat up wok, add olive oil
- When olive oil is warm, add beef, stir constantly
- Add salt, pepper, berbere
- Stir for a few minutes until mostly browned
- Add onions, peppers, and garlic
- Keep stirring until onions are a little bit, but not fully translucent
- Add awaze sauce, keep stirring until ready to serve
