Sufficiency Currency Proposal - GraceRachmany/VOH GitHub Wiki
Money is one of the important interoperability protocols that has allowed humans to coordinate on large scale. However, our current monetary system doesn't fit well with distributed governance systems, because of its tendency to concentrate wealth in the hands of a few. Interest-free or demurrage (negative interest rate) moneys are one way to counter this problem, but these currencies are still fundamentally extractive in nature and represent only one potential representation of value.
For regenerative communities, a different form of currency is needed to help them coordinate at scale and to represent the values that these communities hold.
The Sufficiency Currency Project seeks to create the infrastructure for a sustainable economy based on an alternative currency system that would work for coordinating regenerative projects such as permaculture, ecovillages and urban commons. The existing monetary system doesn’t map well onto the regenerative economy, so the Sufficiency Currency Project is designing economic signaling systems that align with the values and goals of the regenerative movement.
