What information we collect

We do not collect personal information or store records of who uses Cryptocat. While we do an aggregate estimate of how many chats are created in a week, that information does not include chat contents or identifiable information.

Neither we nor our hosting provider (Greenhost) store copies of ciphertext that is transferred through our servers. At no point is any plaintext data transferred through our servers.

While IP addresses are viewable by our network, they are not stored in any way.

####Donations We process donations using PayPal, which means that we do not ever see donors' banking details.

In the case of Cryptocat Store orders, we see the donors' name, email, and address (optional), along with the amount donated. To protect our users, Cryptocat has put in place appropriate electronic security measures to safeguard any personal information we collect.

Other privacy considerations

With Cryptocat, your conversations are protected from passive surveillance, but please be mindful of the ways that people can obtain your personal information.

Malware can store the information you type and send it to other people, or gain control over your entire computer. People can look over your shoulder, copy the conversations you have with others, or you can have poor computer security. Talk to your friends about ways to improve their computer's security.
