Care and Handling - GoARKS/USB-C-thru GitHub Wiki

We need to handle the USB C-thru with care when we use it with cables and test equipment to avoid damage.

Inspection

Make sure to inspect the USC C-thru and the connecting cables before use. Make sure that there are no metal particles, broken or deformed connectors. And also make sure that the cables are not damaged.

Cleaning

When needed you can clean the connectors by spraying compressed air. Or you can use cotton swabs and isopropyl rubbing alcohol, lightly dampen a swab with the alcohol and use gently. Use patience rather than force. Many gentle strokes will eventually get the job done, and with far less risk. Make sure you completely dry the connector before use. Do not use sharp objects to clean. Re inspect and make sure that the connectors are dry and do not have any particles.

Connecting

Make sure you are careful while connecting the cables and the DUT with the USB C-thru. Align the USB C-thru to the DUT and connect gently. Do not forcefully insert the cable. Do not try to twist and hold gently while inserting into the DUT or inserting the cable.

Warnings

  1. The internal electronics of the USB C-thru are exposed during normal operation to facilitate access to the test points. As such, you must be aware of the hazards of operating exposed electronics, and should be familiar with standard anti-static procedures for handling electrical components. Do not spill liquids or drop conductive materials onto the USB C-thru. This can cause permanent damage to the circuit board, fire, or personal injury.

  2. We do not perform drop testing or crush testing, so you should handle the device with care.
