Gameplay - GmodRaMTeam/research_and_manufacturing GitHub Wiki
Premise
There are two companies (Team Blue & Team Orange for now) competing in government contracts, etc. They have a team of scientists working around the clock to complete research in order for the company to make money. You play as one of the security guards attempting to capture the other team/company's scientists. You also get to test the brand new laboratory prototypes they whip up!
Actual Gameplay
First Connect
When you first connect to a server (Or start a game) the team menu will be shown asking for you to join a team. You can continue to be a spectator (Has some weird behavior still), or join one of the two companies/teams.
After joining a team your HUD should fill out with a status, scientist count, etc.
If it does not check the console for errors and report them here. If you're being spammed, briefly join, quit the game ASAP with the console open, and then go through and find the logs.
If the bottom most time in the timer slot shows 0 across the board, the preparation period is over. If not, that is the countdown for the prep time.
Preparation Period
You cannot really do much doing preparation besides stare at your team-mates and look pretty, or explore the map. Kills do not cause a player's team to lose money, and scientists cannot be kidnapped, etc (Frags/Deaths do get added for players but do not affect overall team score). After the prep timer has run down you will get a notification preparation has ended and it's time to begin voting.
Vote Process
Pull open the vote menu with F1. You should see a menu appear with several entries along the left. (Again if errors, post em') Clicking one of these displays a table of current technologies in that category. If you meet the requirements, you can click a blue vote button.
After picking your vote the menu should close, and a notification should display to your team saying Player has voted for technology name
. The status in the HUD should change to Voted
. If an error displays, and you're sure there's a mismatch, briefly switch to spectators and back. This should cause the client table to sync with the server.
Possible Scenarios
Time runs out while menu is open
If time runs out and you still have menu open, simply still try researching something. It will close and you will get an error notification. (Not a LUA error, but a gamemode notification)
You open 2 menus at the same time and now the research menu is stuck open without a cursor
Press F1, Press escape, Press F1 again, close the main menu, tah-dah. Will add a toggle key for the cursor eventually.
Auto-Vote
If time runs out and nobody has voted, research will be chosen, randomly by category, and then by the first highest technology that can be researched.
Normal Situation
After the voting period has ended, and you and your team have voted, the technology with the most votes on your team should begin being researched by your team of scientists.
Research Complete!
(To-do, sync a timer on client to show how long)
After the default research period, along with 5 seconds off for every scientist, your research should be completed! A notification will display notifying you of this (Along with a sound!) saying it's time to vote again. And the process starts over.
Weapons/Gadgets
If the technology is a weapon/gadget, simply go-to the respawn room and touch one of the supply-crates. You should be gifted by your scientist's newest prototype. Have fun.
Implants/Armor/Health
If the technology is an implant, or is in the armor/health category, after you die and respawn you will see the affects. You spawn with the researched amount of armor and extra health. Your max hp/armor will always reflect these changes (Unless you switch teams and they're behind). Using a HP/Armor station will restore you to that max hp/armor.
What About Actually Shooting People and Doing Things?
Well what are all those guns, gadgets, implants, and tech good for? There's two ways to go:
Offense:
Go running into your competitors research lab, guns blazing and stun (With a stunstick) a scientist and bring him back to your overseer (The government looking man with his own office) to recruit him. He will begin working for your company, reducing research time and increasing money made (By $100/Scientist). But be careful, you now have more to defend!
Defense:
Hole up on your side of the ol' Canal (At least on ram_dev) and steadily research some defensive things making yourself more tanky. When someone come's by to steal your scientists, you'll easily stop them in their path causing them shame, and costing they're company some money ($250 by default)!
If someone is escaping with a scientist and you stop them (As in terminate their life), they will drop your team's scientist, and shortly that scientist will use teleportation technology (Effects needed) to return himself to the research lab.
Winning:
When the map is over, the winner is whichever team has the most money on the scoreboard (Which displays by default on map end). It's a team-based gamemode but if you really need the feel to compare sizes, the frags/deaths are on the scoreboard for your gloating.
