SMD LEDs (Surface Mount Device) LEDs are some of the most miniature LEDs available. They are available in several standardized sizes.

Power Requirements
Power to the LEDs can be over a wide range, but limit the current to the devices to no more than 0.02A (20mA). More current through the LED will result in a slightly higher-intensity brightness. Our Dropping Resistor Chart below shows the different LED models and power supply voltage options and the necessary dropping resistor to achieve maximum intensity. The LEDs will function well from currents from 2mA to 20mA.
Hooking Up The LED with Dropping Resistor
All LEDs require current limiting, without a current limiting mechanism, LEDs will usually burn out in under a second. Adding a simple resistor is one of the easiest ways to limit the current.
Our Online LED Calculator is an excellent way to calculator necessary dropping resistor values. The calculator allows for automatic calculation of the necessary current limiting resistor and power rating for operating your LED. We have precalculated common resistor values above for the LEDs, but you can use the calculator for custom voltage or current settings.

How To Identify LED Terminals
An LED has a positive (Anode) lead and a negative (Cathode) lead. The schematic symbol of the LED is similar to the diode except for two arrows pointing outwards. The Anode (+) is marked with a triangle, and the Cathode (-) is marked with a line.
The longer lead of an LED is generally the positive (Anode), while the shorter lead is the negative (cathode).
5050 RGB SMD/SMT LED
These surface-mount LEDs are an easy way to add a lot of colorful dots to your project. They're similar to the ones in our digital RGB LED strip, same size and shape. They are half a centimeter on a side, which makes them small but not so small that they are impossible to hand solder. There are three LEDs inside, red, green and blue and because they are so close together, they mix very nicely, without the need for a diffuser. The LED is also insanely bright, at a eyeball-blistering 3800mcd.
Comes in a strip of 10 pieces.
Please note this is a surface mount part! It is possible to solder thin wires to the pads but its designed for use on a SMT PCB.

General description
WS2812B is a intelligent control LED light source that the control circuit and RGB chip are integrated in
a package of 5050 components. It internal include intelligent digital port data latch and signal reshaping ampli
fication drive circuit. Also include a precision internal oscillator and a 12V voltage programmable constant curr
e-nt control part, effectively ensuring the pixel point light color height consistent.
The data transfer protocol use single NZR communication mode. After the pixel power-on reset, the DIN
port receive data from controller, the first pixel collect initial 24bit data then sent to the internal data latch,
the other data which reshaping by the internal signal reshaping amplification circuit sent to the next cascade
pixel through the DO port. After transmission for each pixel,the signal to reduce 24bit. pixel adopt auto resha
-ping transmit technology, making the pixel cascade number is not limited the signal transmission, only depend
on the speed of signal transmission.
