Open Notebook Science and github wiki as a notebook platform - GilesVolmir/Skylar-Scott--308L-Junior-Lab GitHub Wiki

This semester we have been using open notebooks for our data, thoughts, and procedure and this is to give my opinions and thoughts on this.

I think the Open Science style of scientific record keeping does promote faster development and progress of science. I is not the sort of thing I would become an activist about (since it is not moral) but it seems to be helpful. As a side effect it makes the data more accessible while working on it, since it has always been somewhere online. Although this may be a petty comfort on my part, I enjoy being able to talk freely about my results without fear of losing my work or (theoretically) getting in trouble with my employer.

The github wiki format for the Open Notebook was only marginal, it is relatively easy to return to but kind of buried in the menus if you don't know where to look. The format is sort of buggy and doesn't always do what I want it to, and I simply did not take the time to get it working. The fact that it is tied to a github account is a feature since no other accounts or logins or external websites are needed, but causes the drawbacks already mentioned. Overall, if I were to set up another notebook, I would most likely not use the built in github wiki.
