What happens in the background when enterprise logins are enabled?

• When a user logs in for the first time using their enterprise credentials, an ArcGIS account still gets created for identity purposes that is linked to your enterprise credentials. This is not visible to the user.

Best Practices for Transition

• For each arcgis-only, non-admin account, create enterprise account
  • Create mapping between arcgis and enterprise accounts. Were arcgis accounts created for users based on their enterprise usernames? Was it a free-for-all? Are there usernames with underscores involved which will be problematic?
• Reassign group ownership
  • Order is important, as you don’t want to lose sharing settings! (Add new to group, remove old from group…)
• Reassign content ownership
• Disable arcgis-only account - deleting accounts is more complex, as you have to:
  • revoke entitlement
  • disable Esri access
• Implementation strategy
  • Transition takes time
  • Do it all at once (in combination with scheduled system downtime)
  • Communicate to user: downtime, switch in login workflow/credentials
