Definition of Day One

Before day one, the system has to be fully operational. The charging state of the batteries has to be sufficient. When the batteries are completely charged, the first profil starts. Day one starts with the first communication with the payload. Data of the first experiment profile will be copied on USB X and downlinked. Afterwards, the data will be deleted from USB X by NanoRacks.


Experimental Timeline

Technical tests

  • Profile 101 starts immediatly after the first power on and a complete charge of the batteries
  • Profile 102 starts 2 hour after profile 101
  • Profile 103 starts 2 hour after profile 102
  • Profile 201 starts only after config file was sent from ground
  • Profile 202 starts 2 hour after profile 201

Communication failures

  • Profile 500 starts automatically after seven days without comminication to to payload/further instructions
  • Profile 501 starts 1 hour after profile 500

Scientific experiments

  • Profile 1000 starts only after config file was sent from ground

Profile Definitions

There are different defined profiles. The profiles can be changed by the EXCISS team. The first profile runs automatically on day one.

  • Profiles 0-99 are reseved for pre-flight ground tests
  • Profiles 100-499 are reseved for technical tests
  • Profiles 500-999 are defaults if communication fails
  • Profiles 1000- are used for scientific experiments

Profile 101

The Profile 101 tests components of the experiment e.g. vibration and camera, without an ignition. Amount of data should be small.

The profile performs the following tasks:

  • Take one dark image
  • Take one bright image
  • Start video recording for 1 min
  • Vibration 1x 5 secs
  • Take one bright image

Repeat 10 times:

  • Wait for 1 min
  • Start video recording for 10 sec
  • Take one bright image
  • Take one dark image

Profile 102

The Profile 102 tests components of the experiment e.g. vibration and camera, without an ignition. Amount of data should be small.

The profile performs the following tasks:

  • Take one dark image
  • Take one bright image
  • Vibration 1x 5 secs

Repeat 60 times:

  • Take one bright image high resolution
  • Wait for 1 sec
  • Take nine bright image low resolution every second
  • Wait for 1 sec

Profile 103

The Profile 103 tests temperature of LED lights, RasPi, capacitors, without an ignition. System should reach maximum temperature during this test.

The profile performs the following tasks:

  • Turn on both LED lights 100% for 30 mins
  • Charge cpacitors to maximum voltage
  • Generate CPU load on MCU and SCU

Profile 201

The Profile 201 tests the functionality of the experimental procedure. It is the first profile with ignition but without charging of the capacitors. Amount of data should be small.

The profile performs the following tasks:

  • Take one dark image
  • Take one bright image
  • Start video recording for 1 min
  • Wait 10 secs
  • Ignition

Repeat 10 times:

  • Wait for 1 min
  • Start video recording for 10 sec
  • Take one bright image

Profile 202

The Profile 202 tests the functionality of the experimental procedure. It is the second profile with ignition and with charging of the capacitors. Amount of data should be small.

The profile performs the following tasks:

  • Take one dark image
  • Take one bright image
  • Start video recording for 1 min
  • Charge cpacitors to 200V
  • Vibration 1x 5 secs
  • Wait 10 secs
  • Wait for full capacitor charge
  • Ignition

Repeat 10 times:

  • Wait for 1 min
  • Start video recording for 10 sec
  • Take one bright image

Profile 500

The Profile 500 runs a predefined experiment with video recording and ignition and a low charging of the capacitors. This profile runs if no communications with the payload was possible and is planed as an emergency backup.

The profile performs the following tasks:

  • Take one dark image
  • Take one bright image
  • Start video recording for 10 min
  • Charge cpacitors to 200V
  • Vibration 1x 5 secs
  • Wait 10 secs
  • Wait for full capacitor charge
  • Ignition
  • Wait for recording to finish
  • Take one bright image
  • Take one dark image

Profile 501

The Profile 500 runs a predefined experiment with video recording and ignition and a higher charging of the capacitors than 500. This profile runs if no communications with the payload was possible and is planed as an emergency backup.

The profile performs the following tasks:

  • Take one dark image
  • Take one bright image
  • Start video recording for 10 min
  • Charge cpacitors to 300V
  • Vibration 1x 5 secs
  • Wait 10 secs
  • Wait for full capacitor charge
  • Ignition
  • Wait for recording to finish
  • Take one bright image
  • Take one dark image

Profile 1000

The Profile 1000 is first regular science experiment with predefined parameters and high amount of data.

The profile performs the following tasks:

  • Take one dark image
  • Take one bright image
  • Start video recording for 10 min
  • Charge cpacitors to 200V
  • Vibration 1x 5 secs
  • Wait 10 secs
  • Wait for full capacitor charge
  • Ignition
  • Wait for recording to finish
  • Take one bright image
  • Take one dark image
