Welcome to the GeomScale Google Season of Docs 2020 wiki!
This wiki will be the central hub of information regarding the GeomScale participation in the Google Season of Docs (GSoD) 2020. Administrators are Vissarion Fisikopoulos ([email protected]), Apostolos Chalkis ([email protected]) and Elias Tsigaridas ([email protected]).
Everyone who wants to participate in Google Season of Docs with GeomScale should:
- read the GSoD website so you know how GSoD works,
- read, understand and follow instructions and updates in this wiki regarding GeomScale's involvement on GSoD 2020
Overview of the program
In short, each technical writer selected for a GSoC project will get paid to work on a GeomScale related project for 3 months during the summer:
- Mentors can add projects to give ideas to technical writers.
- Technical writers should look at the list of projects to see if any project interests them. Then email the project mentors to express your interest, and describe any prior experience.
- It is highly recommended for a technical writer to provide a link to a portfolio of technical writing projects that he/she has participated in the past such as source code documentation, tutorials, howto's, vignettes etc.
- After opening communication with project mentors, each technical writer must write an application with a detailed timeline, following this application template. See also this link for hints. Successful applications are shared with mentors for feedback before submission of a final application on Google.
- For real time communication technical writers and mentors can use gitter.
- If GeomScale is accepted as a GSoD project, Google will award a certain number of technical writers slots.
- The project administrators and mentors of GeomScale will rank projects in order of application quality and importance to the GeomScale project, and the top projects will be funded.
- Technical writers get paid a stipend by Google for writing documentation for free/open-source code for 3 months during the program.
- Mentors get documentation written for their project, but no money.
