Map Tile Setup - GeoEngineers/RCOPublicLands GitHub Wiki

Setting up the Public Lands Map Tiles

Introduction

The Washington Public Lands Application maps were designed using Mapbox TileMill. The maps can be styled using Mapbox TileMill and hosted on MapBox or via hosting your own tile server.

All Mapbox tiles are hosted via RCO's Mapbox account

Prerequisites

  • Mapbox TileMill is installed. The easiest path is to use the installs provided on the MapBox Website.
  • Mapbox Hosting Account. You will need at least the Standard plan.

Maps Referenced via the Application

There are several MapBox maps referenced via the application. The SmartMine team had to separate each analysis layer in order to be able to support a more GIS layer table of contents control.

Setting up the Map Projects

GeoEngineers created one Esri Shapefile from the Washington Public Lands Geodatabase. The Shapefile references taxlot data developed by the team at the University of Washington College of Forestry. The MapBox TileMill Vector Data Source needs to be generated referencing this shapefile.

  • Download a copy of the data referenced by the mapping application here: Public Lands Data.

All of the Mapbox CartoCSS projects are located under the /tiles directory of this repository.

Public Lands Map Tile Settings

All CartoCSS Maps were exported to .mbtiles using the following tile extent settings:
