Spatial Overlays - GenusDev/genie-portal GitHub Wiki

Once a project is placed, the overlays available will be specific to that city. A base demographic data pulling from Census data will be available for all U.S. locations. Following the context-specific design of the site, the analytical overlays will always be specific to each city. In addition the basemap used for the overlays will be a simplistic outline of administrative boundaries of each city, or metro area if more relevant, presenting the urban area as an island, and letting the black background fade into the project module. Similarly, each overlay will bound to the administrative boundaries of each city.

The Data API will ideally build into its own project, whereby portals can integrate this API for spatial overlays for various projects. The hope is that all can use a shared library that people can upload data analytics in a peer-reviewed open source platform. This flexibility will allow developers with in house GIS and data science staff to provide analysis for their projects, and this analysis can be shared by other projects. The projects will be catalogued by date, and will undergo a peer-review process.
