Combat Rolls - Genii-Locorum/aov GitHub Wiki

So when the talking fails and you need to draw your sword you'll need to make a Combat Roll. In many respects Combat rolls are like Opposed Rolls but with some differences and some follow on options.

To start a combat roll click on the relevant weapon % on the Combat Tab for characters or the Weapon % on the NPC sheet

You will the get a dialogue box asking for any modifier to the roll.

You can skip the dialogue box by holding the SHIFT key when clicking on the weapon skill.

  • If there isn't an open Combat Roll you will be added to a new Roll as the Attacker

  • If there is an open Combat Roll you will be added to the open Roll as the Defender, using the weapon selected to Parry.

  • If there is an open roll with two participants then you will get an error message to resolve the open roll

The order is important - as indicated above the first participant is the attacker and the second is the defender.

The GM can delete a participant to the roll by clicking on the small cross in a circle icon by the participant. They can cancel the whole role by clicking the "Close Card" button They can finalise the roll by clicking the "Resolve Card" button at which point the dice will be rolled and the results displayed.

Unlike Opposition Rolls you can Resolve the roll with only 1 participant (i.e. just an attacker) - the GM will get a dialogue box asking them to confirm that they want to proceed.

Once resolved the Chat Card will be updated to show the outcome (in the teal box)

If a participant causes damage or has fumbled then buttons will appear beneath the combat result description

Only the relevant party and the GM will see the buttons and only they or the GM can trigger the follow rolls - Damage Rolls or Fumble Rolls

Dodging an attack If you are the second participant to the roll (i.e. the Defender) then instead of using a weapon you can either click on the Dodge skill or select the running man icon at the top right of the weapons grid on the character sheet. The Dodge skill must have the Chaosium ID 'i.skill.dodge' assigned to it so the system knows this is a Dodge.

You can use the Combat Tracker to help follow who acts when.
