Immersion and Theme

The theme of my map is an underground port. I wanted the textures to convey the thought of you running around an old dark looking port. The immersion I want the player to feel is that this place is exactly what the maps name is. From feedback I received from my playtests, so far so good. Players were able to identify the theme even without the textures yet.

The textures I used fit the theme well, the wood textures were perfect for having a variety of woods that standout from one another. This can best be seen applied on the center ship, different kinds of wood textures on the ship and the surrounding docks. The portside of the map, I used whites/greys based off one I saw from Israel. I loved how the whites and greys gave off a very seaside feel. The textures have a small splash of green in them to, just to balance with the whites and greys.

Guidance and Orientation

The textures are placed on the portside of the map in a way that lead the player.

The stones are facing in the general direction that leads the player around the whole map. Every path leads to something, that's the main way I built my map and that's how I wanted the textures for the portside to exhibit.
