### Questions such as | This question helps the designer to |
---|---|
1. How do you want machine to disposal the wastes? | |
2.What kind of pollution in the lake should the machine clean? | |
3. Do you want machine to send signals, if any fault? | Establish clients objectives |
4.Whether the machine should clean the lake daily or weekly or monthly? | |
5.Do you want to trace the machine? | |
6.How much space can you provide for this machine? | |
7.For how much depth in water the machine is able to clean? | Identify constrains |
8.How many workers are needed to clean? | |
9.What measurement in the lake you expect to done by this machine? | |
10.Do want this machine to sense the obstacle to control itself? | Establish functions |
11.Do you want this machine to remove the plants? |
Obtain the information through basic survey and customer interaction and arrive at requirements
### Observation and from Lit. survey | Requirements |
---|---|
1.Based on the cost of other existing machines in the market | The machine cost should not exceed Rs.100000(The minimized model of machine's cost should not exceed Rs.5000) |
2.Machine should alert the user when collecting bin is full. | Machine should added some sensors to detect the level of waste. |
3.Machine should clean different types of wastes | Machine should be constructed in such a way that, it can able to collect different types of wastages |
4.Machine should be able stop whenever an obstacle come in front of it. | Machine should contain ultrasonic sensor. |
5.It should not be harmful for the aquatic animals | Materials used should be non toxic and not much sharp ended tools |
1.1 Identify client’s objectives
Step 1: Prepare a list of design objectives
Sl. no. | Objectives |
---|---|
1. | Machine should collect wastes like Plastic bottles, organic wastes . |
2. | It should be easy to operate. |
3. | Less human interference.(can be operated by minimum number of operators) |
4. | Machine should have ultrasonic sensor , which can help to detect the obstacle. |
5. | It should easy to dispose the wastes. |
1.2 Prioritize the identified design objectives
Priority among various objectives is set through a technique called Pair-wise Comparison Chart (pcc)
### Objectives | Safety | Collection of different wastes | Easy to use | Score |
---|---|---|---|---|
Safety | ****** | 0 | 1 | 1 |
Collection of different wastes | 1 | ****** | 1 | 2 |
Easy to use | 0 | 0 | ***** | 0 |
Rank the objectives in order of decreasing value of importance and the list is
1 .Safety 2. Collection of different types of wastes 3. Easy to use
Based on the information gathered through interaction with client, initial survey and completing phase 1.1 the problem definition is formulated as follows
Problem definition version1.1
Design a machine which can collects the wastes like plastic , organic matter which present on the surface of the water. Machine should made up of nontoxic materials so it can be safe for aquatic animals.
1.2 Identify constraints
- Machine should able to clean wastes which are floating on the water surface.
- Work with the help of minimum number of labours.
- Cost efficient
- In 5min it should able to clean 10X10.
Problem definition version 1.2
Design a machine which is able to clean different types of wastes such as organic and plastics. Machine should able to collect the wastes which are floating on the surface of water. It can able to clean with the help of minimum number of labours. It should be able to clean 10X10 in 5 minutes. Machine should be made up of non toxic material. It should not exceed Rs.5000.
1.3 Identify functions
- Remove the plants floating on the water.
- Sense the obstacles and stop for 5 seconds.
- Alert the user if collecting bin is full.
Problem definition version1.3
Design a machine which can easily clean the lake by removing waste from water. Machine should sense the obstacle and prevent the collision between machine and obstacles. Machine should able to collect materials like plastic waste, leaves and other green waste. It should be easy to operate, use less human resource. It should be able to clean 10X10 in 5 minutes. Material used for the construction should be non toxic and should not cause harm to aquatic animals. The cost of the prototype should not exceed Rs.5000.
