All the clothing shops are very crowded. The salesmen and the labourers find it difficult to entertain all the customers as organizing the clothes simultaneously is a tedious task. Propose a solution for this problem.

QUESTIONS SUCH AS THESE QUESTIONS HELPS THE DESIGNER TO
1. Where the machine should be placed ? Establish client’s objectives.
2. Do u need any power backup ? Establish client’s objectives.
3. What kind clothes should it fold ? Establish client’s objectives.
4. What is the size of the cloth do you insert in it ? Establish client’s objectives.
5. How many clothes do you want to fold Establish client’s objectives.
6. What’s the maximum weight should the machine have? Identify constraints.
7. What is the maximum size of the machine? Identify constraints.
8. What is the cost of the machine ? Identify constraints.
9. It should identify weather the clothe is put in the machine or not. Establish functions.
10. It should display signals for different purposes Establish functions.

Answers

  1. Machine should be used indoor.
  2. Yes we need power backup.
  3. It should fold shirts and t-shirts.
  4. We will insert the clothes of size (Small-Large)(46cm chest - 59cm chest).
  5. We will insert only one cloth at a time.
  6. The maximum weight of the machine is 5kg.
  7. The maximum size of the machine is (50cm broad-60cm long).
  8. The maximum cost of machine is Rs 4000.
  9. yes it will identify weather the cloth is put in the machine or not.
  10. yes it will display messages for different purposes.
OBSERVATION FROM LIT. SURVEY REQUIREMENTS
1. Based on the weight of the machine and ease to carry The total weight should not exceed 4 kg
2. Based on the clothes we put in it for folding The machine should fold only shirts and t-shirts
3. Based on the cost of competing product in market The cost of the machine should be maximum Rs-4000
4. Based on folding capability of the machine It should fold 1 cloth at a time

1. Identification of client’s objectives

  • list of design objectives

SL. NO. OBJECTIVE
01. Less energy consumption.
02. Machine should able to fold only shirts and t-shirts
03. Machine should able to fold the clothes of the size (Small-Large)(46cm - 59 cm)
04. It should consume less space and time
05. Machine should be used as friendly (easy to carry)

2. Prioritization of identified design objectives

Priority among various objectives is set through a technique called Pair-wise Comparison Chart (PCC)

OBJECTIVES ENERGY CONSUMPTION TYPE OF CLOTH SIZE OF CLOTH
Energy consumption *** 1 1 2
Presence of cloth in the machine before folding 0 *** 1 1
Size of the cloth 0 0 *** 0

Rank of the objective

  1. Energy consumption
  2. Presence of cloth in the machine before folding
  3. size of cloth

Based on the information gathered through interaction with client, initial survey and completing phase 1. The problem definition is formulated as follows

PROBLEM DEFENITION VERSON 1.1
Design a machine for folding of only shirts and t-shirts, which should consume less energy. Cost of the machine should not exceed Rs-4000. The weights of the machine should not exceed 4 Kg. It should fold only one shirt/t-shirts at a time.

3. Identification of constraints

  1. The size of the machine should not exceed 50cm*60cm.
  2. The cost of the machine should not exceed Rs4000.
  3. The weight of the machine should not exceed 3-4 kg.
  4. It should fold the cloth of the size (small-large).
PROBLEM DEFENITION VERSION 1.2
Design a machine for folding of only shirts and t-shirts which should be affordable. Cost of the machine should not exceed Rs 4000. The weight of the machine should not exceed 4Kg. It should fold only one Shirt or T-shirt at a time

4. Establish functions

  1. The machine should fold only one cloth at a time.
  2. It should fold only t shirts and shirts and pants.
PROBLEM DEFINITION VERSION 1.2
Design an attractive and efficient automatic cloth folding machine which can be placed indoor to fold only t-shirts/shirts and the size of the t-shirts and shirts should be in between (Small-Large)(46cm chest - 59cm) and it should work with less energy consumption as well. Weight of the machine should not exceed 4 kg and the dimensions of the machine should be 50cm broad and 60cm long. The cost of the machine should not exceed 4000 and It should fold only one cloth at a time .
