Gathering Pertinant Information

Introduction

During festivals the clothes shops are over crowded and that is why the salesmen and the labours face a lot of problem handling the customers and arranging the clothes simultaneously. There are many solutions for this problem and one among them is cloth folding machine.
The cloth folding machine makes work easier for the salesmen as it folds and arranges the clothes. It can be defined as a self-controlled device which contains electronic, electrical, or mechanical units.. This helps to increase productivity, accuracy and speed. It replaces human to perform those tasks that are routine and time consuming. The most apparent reasons that are associated in installing of cloth folding machine are;

  1. Saving of manpower.
  2. Improved quality & efficiency.
  3. Increased consistency & flexibility.

Existing solution to the problem

1. Foldimate

A revolutionary New Robotic Clothes Folding Machine that perfumes and treats your clothes while folding them professionally. The front design comes with hangers where you can easily suspend your clothes from both ends, to make the feeding process easier and faster. Foldimate has a patented technology of robotic clothes folding that makes it efficient, compact, and highly affordable.

2. Fabric Double Fold Rolling Machine

This is a textile machinery works as fabric folders used in textile factory or textile mills. This machine is specially designed primarily for the folding of fabric and textile design. Clothes folding machine is mainly used for folding cloth. These clothes folding machines are easy in operation and perform smoothly without noise. Cloth folding machines are easy to use, robust construction, low maintenance, durable and reliable and Long service life. It also used for home textile for making textile fabrics. Clothes folding machine is used after Compactor Machine.

3. T-Fold

The T-FOLD, is a specialized textile folding machine to creates the perfect solution for folding and stacking all kinds of Terry-towel, towel, napkin, floor cloth, thin blanket, table cloth and other flat product up to a sizes of 120 x 230 cm (47″ x 90″).Two machines are connected and synchronised with one common delivery conveyor, reducing space requirement and offering the possibility to direct the piles straight to a packaging machine (without human interference. Multiple stacker stations for automatic sorting. Extended lateral fold section.

4. Laundroid

The Laundroid is a home robot, used to automatically wash, dry, ironing, sort and fold clothes to a dedicated closet. It was first introduced and demonstrated at the 2015 CEATEC consumer electronics show in Tokyo. It was jointly developed by Daiwa House, Panasonic, and Seven Dreamers. Laundroid uses multiple robotic arms to pick up the clothes, which are then scanned by cameras. It’s connected by Wi-Fi to a server that uses artificial intelligence to analyze the object, and a neural network containing 256,000 images of different clothing items. The robot arms then determine the best way to handle the clothing, where to hold it up by, and how it should be folded. You’ll need a couple of hours for it to finish folding a load of laundry, as one T-shirt takes about 5–10 minutes to fold.

DIY Projects

1. Shirt folding board

This is a simple cloth folding machine which can be prepared at home, steps involved in this are;

  1. Place a shirt face down centred on the board.
  2. Fold one side panel over and back.
  3. Fold the other side panel over and back.
  4. Fold the bottom centre panel up and back.

Components needed for the machine

  1. Large gear
  2. Motor
  3. Small gear
  4. Shaft
  5. Crank attachment

Table 1 Information Collected by various sources

Sl No. Components or parts used(Electronics/Mechanical) Mechanisms/working Principle identified Links
1 Motor (E) It converts electrical energy into mechanical energy https://electronics.howstuffworks.com/motor.htm
2. Crank (M) It converts circular motion into reciprocating motion https://www.britannica.com/technology/slider-crank-mechanism
3. Gears (M) Gears are mechanisms that mesh together via teeth and are used to transmit rotary motion from one shaft to another http://www.china-reducers.com/working-principle.html
4. Shaft (M) A shaft is a rotating machine element, usually circular in cross section, which is used to transmit power from one part to another, or from a machine which produces power to a machine which absorbs power.[1] The various members such as pulleys and gears are mounted on it. https://www.revolvy.com/page/Shaft-%28mechanical-engineering%29?

Direct solutions

1.Increase the no. of labours:

The problems faced in the shops during festivals can be solved by increasing the number of labours/ salesmen. As the crowd can be easily controlled if there are many people.

2. Using barriers:

Drawing huge crowds to stores for the holiday sales season or major promotions is a giant priority for retailers, particularly as brick-and-mortar stores feel the pressure from online competitors. Getting customers in the aisles is only half the job – providing an organized retail space that promotes a safe and enjoyable shopping experience is the other half. Queue management and crowd control techniques are becoming increasingly important to retailers as data emerges showing that reducing wait times, increasing browsing opportunities, and providing an organized environment helps improve sales at retail locations. For industry-standard queue management, The Crowd Controller offers a number of products that allow retailers to better control traffic in their stores, increasing browse time and cutting into waits at checkout.

3.Increasing the size of the shops:

By increasing the no of shops or the size of the shops the crowd can be controlled easily as the space is increased which helps the salesmen in entertaining everyone easily.
