The main activities of NMDC are to focus on exploration and exploitation of Iron Ore. This involves various activities like Surveying, Drilling, Production, Transportation etc. and it requires various equipments of materials to achieve the mission. Most of these materials are both domestic and foreign origin and their procurement requires definite criteria to be followed to acquire undisruptive production. In a mass production manufacturing company like NMDC, purchasing plays a major role in the entire production process. A good Procurement system is an absolute necessity for the mineral extraction process to continue without halting. Supply chains have critical role in maintaining the reliable and consistent flow. Procurement strategy is to find the firms and match the supplier’s resources to their own resources. Hence this will favor the formation of strategic alliances. It is necessary to understand first how the firm generates income before procurement strategy and e-procurement tools are implemented in order to avoid misalignment.
