Tower of Bab Il Docs Elemental Status - GameHackingDotOrg/FF4Hacking GitHub Wiki

Updates:
10/01/2000 Added the two previously unknown status bits: egg and covered
status.

The most recent copy of this document can be obtained from the Tower of Bab-Il
(http://minitrue.weyland-yutani.net/tower/index.html).

This document uses normal bit order (bit 0 is the least significant bit).

In each character/monster data record, there are four bytes that determine
what status anomalies the character or monster is afflicted with. The
following table shows which bit is associated with which status anomaly. Much
of this information comes from Yousei's document (thanks Yousei!)

06 1 D covered
06 0 D critical

The names of the status anomalies are located from 7B640 to 7B6FF. The offset
table for this text data is located from 7B600 to 7B63F.

Elemental/status bytes are used in various places such as spell and item data.
These bytes signify things such as what elemental and status anomalies an
armor resists, what elements a weapon, spell, or usable item uses, what status
change a spell, weapon hit, or usable item inflicts, and so on. These bytes
are looked up in a table from 7A790 to 7A90F. Each entry in the table is
composed of three bytes. The first byte is used for elementals:

bit 0 fire
bit 1 ice
bit 2 lightning
bit 3 darkness
bit 4 sacred
bit 5 spears/arrows
bit 6 drain
bit 7 (for armors) immunity to elements for which the bits are set, otherwise
    unknown

The bits of the second byte have the same meaning as the status byte at offset
03. The bits of the third byte have the same meaning as the status byte at
offset 04.
