Intro

"Dr. Eric's Psychedelic Wonderland" opens up looking at the University of Louisiana ShenanDoah. In the lab, we find Dr. Eric cleaning up the laboratory after a long day of research but fails to notice a flask containing his current research, he left above a flame with the bottle closed. The bottle bursts and Dr. Eric is sprayed with the mysterious concoction with what seems to be a squid floating in it. Distracted by the time, Dr. Eric forgets that some of the chemical solution fell into his mouth and rushes home to feed his cat. On his bike ride home, Dr. Eric begins to feel the effects of the chemical solution and begins to see rainbows. Suddenly, a squid, Squidly, pops out of nowhere and takes Dr. Eric's head (yes, just his head) into space.

World 1

Drifting through space, Dr. Eric notices strange things flying by him. Ice cream? Gummy bears? An oreo?? A confused Dr. Eric forgets about his current predicament and exclaims "I'm not sure what's happening but I need to get home!" Squidly tells Dr. Eric that it can help Dr. Eric get home but that they'd have to work together.

From this point, the game transitions into a tutorial to get the player accustomed to the game play mechanics.

Limitations of Mechanics and ability to give Story and atmosphere out

Great difficulty in changing what the levels are. Limited ability to dispense information(dialogue needs to be fast), art asset asynchronus Only really moving character is your own. No dialogue trees/game is linear

Ways to overcome this

Every piece of dialogue the squid gives out has secon d meaning second play-through

"Stories" that occur through mechanics

Dieing and respawning.(need to figure out what it is)

Your only motion is through the squid

The squid is always trying to connect to your head

Platforms floating (only in world 1?)

_World 1 The barnacannons shooting out ice cream

The walls are made of something that looks like candy/sweets

Gummy bears are set in a different physics

Ideas for story given the above

Every piece of dialogue the squid gives out has secon d meaning second play-through

Please give me some more.

Mechanics that might be useful

Scripted movement: ( throughout the entire game the main version of agency is movement), having movement and thus angency taken away forcefully would allow for a very important moment and idea to be conveyed.
