Highlight Mods - Galileo88/JNSQ GitHub Wiki

This is not a full "recommendation" of mods to use with JNSQ. Virtually all of the listed utility mods are recommended, however. This page exists mainly to draw attention to them for players who ask "What mods should I add for a true JNSQ experience?"

Planet Mods

(If you're feeling brave...)

⚠️ Do not install Outer Planets Mod as its orbits will grossly overlap within the orbits of Dres and Hamek. No other planet mods are known to match in art style or scale with JNSQ and so none are recommended.

  • Grannus Expansion Pack originally made for Galileo's Planet Pack, now responds to JNSQ and up-sizes to 2.5x and gets a red version of JNSQ's sunflare.

Utilities (Recommended)

  • Antenna Helper adequately and easily shows the power and ranges of combined antenna in VAB, flight and the Tracking Station.
  • Better SRBs makes all SRBs better. It gives them all much needed gimbal and a thrust curve. As it should be.
  • Community Resource Pack because JNSQ and the various highly featured rocket mods urge you to do things with more and better resources than just Ore and just LFO.
  • Contract Reward Modifier for fine tuning of of your earnings and penalties in career mode, and restriction of the numbers of each kind of contract offered at a time.
  • FinalFrontier for your kerbals to get ribbons/medals when they meet milestones.
  • Kerbal Alarm Clock allows for timing and running multiple missions in one playthrough. This is one of those mods that KSP is virtually unplayable without.
  • Kerbal Engineer Redux... Obviously.
  • Kerbal Konstructs + Omega's Stockalike Structures enable JNSQ's 14 extra facilities to appear. Some of these are space centers; Most of these are airports; Two of these replace and surpass the ones provided by the Making History DLC and do not require the DLC in order to appear; All of these provide for new things for your space program to take advantage of.
  • Rational Resources bundled with JNSQ, is the core of the ISRU challenge experience. It also makes resources readily available for life support mods.
  • ResearchBodies enables/forces you to progressively discover and unlock worlds before being able to simply view them in the Tracking Station or Map View.
  • Strategia for an enhanced career experience.
  • Transfer Window Planner is a highly detailed mod that does what it says on the tin. It's more reliable than Kerbal Alarm Clock (KAC)'s own alarms, and it creates alarms for KAC.
  • Waypoint Manager to bookmark the places you want to go to.

@ DMagic

  • Basic dV + Basic Orbit are lightweight alternatives to KER. They supplant the stock dV feature.
  • SCANsat for terrain mapping and resource mapping goodness.

Other Popular Utilities

  • Atmospheric Autopilot has a bit of a learning curve but is better than SAS for handling aircraft and is great for aircraft that fly long flights.
  • Kerbal Attachment System + Kerbal Inventory System work best when together. KIS allows individual (or a group of) EVA kerbals to lift, attach, detach parts and tools, and store them in any/many compatible containers; and provides a wide array of motorized and hose-like parts to connect vessels together and perform tractor operations (see included magnets and harpoons). KIS is mutually exclusive with the DLC inventory system.
  • MechJeb is the Swiss Army knife of autopilot. It can do everything except protect the other crew's snacks rations from the flesh Jeb, and it's known to waste your RCS fuel.

Recommended Parts

  • Eve Optimized Engines provides performance stats switching for some stock LFO engines, tuned explicitly for Eve Ascent Vehicles and ascent vehicles in general where any planet's sea level atmosphere pressure reaches 10. (Stock Eve measures 5 atm but JNSQ's Eve measures 10 atm.)
  • JX2 Antenna so when you need to spam stock RA-100s, spam no more.
  • Restock + RestockPlus are to the stock parts as JNSQ is to the stock planets.

Other Popular Parts

  • Airplane Plus is the premier commercial airline plane parts mod. For players who love planes but may never plan to leave Kerbin.
  • Bluedog Design Bureau for the best (and nearly all) of American rockets.
  • Extraplanetary Launchpads or Global Construction enables your off-world bases or stations to use crew, consume resources and spawn craft in-flight.
  • Kerbal Planetary Base Systems for an amazing stockalike base parts collection.
    • Feline Utility Rover is a feature rich, modular rover system from the maker of KPBS.
  • Mk2 + Mk3 Stockalike Expansion for stockalike plane parts you didn't know you needed!
  • Modular Launch Pads is the single huge mod that meets all your custom launch pad/stand needs.
  • OPT Spaceplane + OPT Reconfig for futuristic yet stockalike extra large plane parts.
  • OPT Legacy for more OPT parts. Not required but exists and provides more options for plane bodies, and for exotic spaceplane engines and power generation.
  • Tantares for the best of Russian rockets.
  • Tundra Exploration for the best of SpaceX.
  • Universal Storage 2 provides a wedge and rack system which is truly universal. Between its modularity and feature richness, its play-ability virtually knows no limit, and there are wonderful animations at every turn. Many of its parts may not appear unless a life support mod (namely TAC) is installed.

@ Angel125

  • Wild Blue Industries:
    • Pathfinder for bases that you can assemble/disassemble, inflate/deflate, and reconfigure for nearly all your needs.
    • Buffalo rover. As modular as Pathfinder but you don't inflate rover parts...except the crew tube and that one chassis section.
    • DSEV for traveling stations and fusion rocketry...like in the movies: The Martian; Interstellar.
    • MOLE for 1.25m and 1.875m early career station parts and a totally different means of conducting science. MOLE experiments can consume time, resources, and require specific situations, specific places and specific numbers of kerbals on deck in order to operate.
    • Heisenberg/Ariships for modular blimp parts and lots of propfan engines that work on Kerbin or Eve.
    • Kerbal Komets makes space 🥔 's into glorious smokey comet thingies.

@ benjee10

  • Shuttle Orbiter Construction Kit + reDIRECT for an amazing analogue US space shuttle. It contains many decals and toggles the names of all real shuttles that have flown. It's a bit smaller than stock Mk3 but is balanced for 2.5x scale.
  • HabTech2 for the best ISS parts around. Fits well with Nertea's SSPXr.

@ DMagic

  • DMagic Orbital Science (DMOS) provides an expansive array of animating science parts to stuff into probes and landers.

@ Nertea

  • Heat Control brings better [heat control] options for major heat producers like torch engines and nuclear reactors.
  • Near Future:
    • Aeronautics is an expansive pack of intakes and engines for spaceplanes and other aircraft for atmospheres with and without Oxygen. It includes a form of that "nuclear RAPIER" or "nuclear aerospike" that several players ask for.
    • Construction if you like trusses and girders.
    • Electric + Solar for power source options. Lots of nuclear reactors and lots of solar panels, respectively.
    • Launch Vehicles for Restockalike heavy and heavier lifters.
    • Propulsion for ion probe engine needs.
    • Spacecraft for more MonoProp engines and big command pods.
  • Stockalike Station Parts Expansion Redux (SSPXr) for the best and most feature filled station parts around.

@ Well

  • KNES for the best of European/French rockets.
  • Interkosmos is a small pack of very beautiful stockalike experiments to bolt onto the side of your science probe.

Visuals

  • Distant Object Enhancements enables the other planets and distant vessels (up to maybe 100km) to show as distinctly colored stars or flickers in the sky. It also allows adjustment of the skybox brightness.
  • Environmental Visual Enhancements (EVE, all caps) is the plugin/function mod that enables all cloud pack/asset mods such as Stock Visual Enhancements, Astronomer's Visual Pack, Spectra, SciFi Visual Enhancements.
    • ⚠️ Do not install any of these or any other ones not listed because JNSQ changes the stock planets enough that they will no longer fit in any way, and because JNSQ carries its own cloud pack.
  • Planetshine produces the effect of celestial bodies to cast/reflect light with their average surface color onto low orbiting vessels.
  • scatterer enables the atmospheric haze and glow effects, custom sunflares and realistic looking oceans.
