The SD70MAC-H is a Progress Rail rebuild that utilizes former KCS cores. Metra, following the acquisition of Former GO Transit and Amtrak F59PHs and wanting to keep the trend of 710 Powered locomotives going, Metra announced in 2019 that they would be replacing their unrebuilt pieces of shit- er I mean F40PHs with SD70MACs reconfigured for passenger service. It sounds incredibly stupid, but it has been done before with the Alaska Railroad, who’s SD70MACs came built with HEP.
The first units started arriving on Metra property in late-2022, with Metra promising to have the first ones in revenue service by Quarter 2 of 2023, although, likely due to some slight mechanical issues related to the Big Macs revealed during testing, the first one entered revenue service on November 29th, 2023.

Notes
(1) C-3 for the Alaska Units = 3 motors.
(2) Multiply all this shit by 3 for 3 Phase. It’s not how it works but it’s close enough.
(3) I HATE INVERTER TAP I HATE INVERTER TAP I HATE INVERTER TAP (HEP is on the unit, subtract 1900 HP from it, and have it N2-N4. This is not how it works but remember, this is inverter tap we are talking about.)
