MK4000C - FresnoSubber/Fresno-and-Co.-Trainbuild-Tomfuckery GitHub Wiki
Are you running a railroad with ALCo based products and want some more grunt going into the 1990s and early 2000s? Or are you an ALCo/MLW fan who is dissatisfied with the lack of a "more modern" locomotive using the venerable 251 engine? Whoever you are, look no further!
Two M&NW MP4000Cs get ready to depart on a TOFC service at Wolfram. Of note are the "Passive Steering" trucks underneath instead of the usual Dofasco ZWT-3 Hi-Ad trucks.
The Morrison-Knudsen 4,000hp C-C is a fictional/"what if" offering in MK Rail's line-up of MKx000 series diesel locomotives. Production would've started in August 1994 and ended in December 2004 in the US market (thanks to the EPA's Tier 2 emissions standards taking effect on January 1st, 2005) and some time later in the 2000s for other markets such as Australia, South America and isolated railways in Canada (December 1999 for the standard cab units, one month after the merger between MK Rail successor MotivePower Industries (MPI) and the Westinghouse Air Brake Company (WABCo), creating Wabtec). Those built after Morrison-Knudsen's bankruptcy declaration in May 1996 would've likely have been renamed to "MP4000C" to reflect the spun off firm's new name and their desire to distance themselves from the sinking ship that was their parent company, and the ones built from January 2003 onwards would have their existing name shortened to "MP40C" to line up with MPI's newer offerings going into the 2000s (MP36PH-3S, MP14B, MP21B.etc).
