16 S - FresnoSubber/Fresno-and-Co.-Trainbuild-Tomfuckery GitHub Wiki
According to the Ingalls catalog, the 16-S would have looked like this, resembling ALCO’s S3. The 5-S was a similar case but with the S4.
The 16-S was likely Ingalls’s attempt to rival the ALCO S3 and EMD SW1, planned to be built during the postwar market as railroads slowly moved away from steam (or, in some cases, electric) traction. The 16-S would be Ingalls’s answer for a more conventional diesel switcher with lesser horsepower. Unfortunately, given the fact that there was literally only one 4-S ever built, there was literally nothing else that came into existence, including the 16-S.
