Incompatible mods

Mods that replace or move major features of any of these maps are incompatible:

  • Exterior Maps: Town, Forest, Backwoods, Beach, Mountain, Railroad, Summit, Desert, Skull Cavern, and any festival maps. If you use Immersive Farm 2 Remastered, that list also includes Bus Stop, Greenhouse and Farm Cave.

  • Interior Building Maps: Mines, Skull Cavern, AdventureGuild, AnimalShop, ArchaeologyHouse, Blacksmith, Club, ElliottHouse, FishShop, HaleyHouse, HarveyRoom, Hospital, JojaMart, JoshHouse, LeahHouse, ManorHouse, Saloon, SamHouse, SandyHouse, ScienceHouse, SebastianRoom, SeedShop, Trailer, Trailer_big, WitchHut, WizardHouse and WizardHouseBasement.

Minor edits may or may not work, depending on what they change - SVE's events are scripted around its own maps, and mods that change them may cause issues you won't see until later.

Recheck install instructions, update required mods

If something went wrong, make sure you follow the install guide exactly. This mod is complex and needs to be installed in a very specific way.

Common issues

...contains files, but none of them are manifest.json

This is the result of incorrectly installing SVE. Double-check the install guide and compare how your Mods folder looks to the screenshots.

Trees/debris/grass/bushes in wrong spots

That happens when maps are changed mid-save - see Prepare an existing save on the install guide for fixing them.

Gunther isn't giving me the Sewer Key

In SVE, Gunther no longer rewards the player the key for donating 60 artifacts to the museum (there is a different reward now). Marlon now gives players the sewer key. Players must now reach 2 hearts with Marlon and have reached the bottom of the mines to obtain the sewer key. Enter the Adventurer's Guild when these conditions are met.

Conflicts with other mods that change maps, maps loaded twice

SVE replaces nearly every map in the game, and will revert changes made by maps Loaded with Content Patcher. If another mod also Loads the same map, neither will work. See the included Installation Guide for how to enable compatibility with supported mods.

(Note: replacing the SVE map files directly is not recommended, since that will break many SVE events that expect the SVE map layouts.)

Strings/StringsFromMaps when inspecting

Something has gone wrong with the main SVE installation. Make sure that you installed the main SVE download from its Nexus page, and that you have a folder called [CP] Stardew Valley Expanded in your Mods folder (not Mods/Mods or Mods/Stardew Valley Expanded/Mods). Check that you have TMXLoader and PyTK installed, and that Content Patcher is up to date.

My mini map is the same

You may be using a mod that tries to load the same map, such as a recolor mod. These can sometimes be disabled in the recolor mod config, while other mods may require editing the content.json to remove the relevant patch. A SMAPI log will help identify the mod in question.

My game or save won't load

Check that you aren't using map mods that are incompatible with SVE or that might cause SVE's maps not to load. The custom NPCs need to be able to path to the custom locations, and the game can crash if they no longer have any way of getting there.

If you already rechecked the install guide and none of the above helped, you can ask for help on the mod page, the SVE subreddit or #modding on the Stardew Valley Discord. Make sure to include a description of the issue, and a link to your SMAPI log.
