Week 6 PC Purchase Lab - FlameSpyro/Tech-Journal GitHub Wiki

Profile

With the current semester, most of the classes will be held online as well as clubs and work which may require a strong pc that will be able to handle all of this. With a budget of $1000, I will be going for a New Vostro Desktop which will come to a cost of $879.00 with including the addition of RAM sticks. A desktop should be able to handle tasks a bit better than my current laptop and has the functionality of being able to do all the tasks required for classes such as system fundamentals for programs such as VMs and remote desktop. This should also be able to handle the programming software that my programming professor requires in order to do all of my daily assignments. It won't be the most intense machine as it will not be used for gaming or any other software but some programs may require some power in order to run and with a $1000 budget this is a good choice.

Table

*With the Machine being pre-purchased, the components are not broken down by price so the price tab will be left blank and the cost will be left at the bottom and the motherboard will be absent except for the memory stick.

Computer Component Quantity Price Rationale for Component
10th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-10700 processor(8-Core, 16M Cache, 2.9GHz to 4.8GHz) 1 This newer version of the i7 comes with 8 cores, 16M Cache and a 2.9-4.8 GHz clock speed. This processor will be more than enough to handle the large variety of tasks at hand. The most notable example I have is Virtual Machines as I’ve used the software before. This processor will run VMs fluently which overall means it should be able to run any class required software.
16GB, 1x16Gb, DDR4, 2666Mhz 1 (4 Individually) The motherboard of this machine comes with a 16GB capacity overall which is a great amount! Going off of the software we have used so far will run perfectly fine within 16GB.
1TB 7200RPM 3.5" SATA HDD Content Cell I will have general documents on cloud services so those won't be a factor. However from past experience, depending on the assignment, VM can take up a lot of space depending on how much space will be pumped into it and how many VMs there will be in the first place so 1 TB is a great option. As for the HDD instead of SSD it's more for the longer lifespan and it's more bigger size compared to SSD and to reduce the amount of drives to 1 large drive.
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit 1 Windows 10 is being used as it is the most latest and greatest operating system provided by Microsoft. The 64 bit version is the proper configuration along with the pro version for stronger overall security.
Crucial - DDR4 - 16 GB - DIMM 288-pin - unbuffered memory stick 1 stick $70.00 Going along with the processor, to run heavy programs such as VMs lots of memory will be required. While not over the top, this amount of memory will allow the machines to run very well without error.
Total Cost $879.00
