This lab had us setup and get the hang of vsphere and a couple of the vms that are provided with it. The settings in the wks01 and fw01 were altered to be fully cabled and connected. MAC addresses were also verified in the firewall. WAN was configured to not use dhcp, use 24 bit subnet mask and have an upstream gateway of 10.0.17.2. LAN was assigned with 10.0.5.2/24 and no upstream or dhcp. wks was altered to be named wks01-Eric. IPv4 was altered to a set ip to 10.0.5.100 and a 10.0.5.2 default gateway and DNS. Finally the GUI was altered to neglect private WANs, renamed to fw1-Eric for host and Eric.local to domain. Primary DNS was altered to 8.8.8.8 with a password applied to the root. The deliverables captured these moments and the proper commands to check.
Terms
RFC1918 was mentioned in a question and I'm confused as to what that means?
I am aware of PowerShell but what really is it?
What is an upstream gateway and how does it work?
Notes
The DNS was not working correctly and was properly set using 8.8.8.8. This was missing before and would not allow me to ping/communicate with urls.
Disabling the WAN was under "Block private networks and loopback addresses.
*vSphere is in an enclosed space meaning my laptop and its connections will not do anything to interfere.
