Vlans are super useful and allow specific and controlled communication in a network. There are 2 settings to make, Trunk and Access. Access VLANS allow for computers within 1 VLAN to communicate with each other. Trunk allows for multiple. These VLANS can be created using a switch. One router at least is required to have multiple switches that can communicate with each other. The only issue I had with this concept was with time mostly. Now that I understand it much more, it will be no problem. Make sure to use crossover cables between the switches and also if there are 3 switches linked then the middle one should run a Trunk VLAN to allow for communication aswell.
