Troubleshooting Tips and Tricks - FearL0rd/ASCOM.DSLR GitHub Wiki

If you are running into errors using Sharpcap 3.3 or lower, we strongly recommend trying the Sharpcap 4.0 beta (or higher). Sharpcap was originally designed for cameras without a mechanical shutter, and the 4.0 beta is much more DSLR friendly!

Canon EOS Ra (and maybe other R series)

One user has reported that their EOS Ra didn't work when plugged directly into a USB 3 port, but did work when plugged into a USB2 hub plugged into the same USB 3 port.

Nikon Issues on Windows 11

It has been reported that the installation doesn't work correctly on Windows 11.

Turning on Logging

In the event that you get errors testing or using the driver, try the following:

  1. Ensure that you camera is able to access bulb mode. Setting your camera to manual mode usually does this.
  2. Turn off Autofocus (this can be on your attached lens, or in the camera settings)
  3. Ensure that you have the ASCOM Platform installed.

If these steps don't help, set the drop down value in the properties window for "Camera Log Level" to "Trace", rerun whatever is failing. Logs will be generated under the folder "Documents\ASCOM\Logs YYYY-MM-DD" (YYYY = current year, MM = current month, DD = Current date). Save these logs, and get in touch with the developers who can review the logs (and hopefully fix whatever problem you are having!).
