Here are some tips about the automation menu.

At some point in the game, the menu can be a bit long. You can collapse panels by clicking on their title:

Hovering on any button, or their preceding text label, a couple of seconds will display a tooltip explaining their use:

When a button is disabled (greyed), it will display the reason as well: The same goes for disabled settings:
