At what point does AI stop improving user experience? - Falmouth-Games-Academy/comp250-wiki GitHub Wiki
Overview
When Machines are not,
Truly individuals,
How can they create?
When games include AI and procedurally generated aspects to the game it can create a strong sense of individuality and uniqueness as it creates a system with the potential to always be different and new. However, AI still lacks the clarity of thought that occurs when someone creates an idea for a game or when an artist has a specific image for how they want something to look such as in map creation. One reason for this could be that these sorts of thoughts and the imagery that occurs with it are highly influenced by the creators' past life experiences mixed in with the creator’s own imagination whereas when AI is used for a procedural generation it must work within its own confines. Taking this into account, at what point would you want the quality of human input rather than a more individually unique experience from an AI? I feel that a balance is needed between these two aspects of game creation for a game with AI to truly be good, I would say this because a creator has the chance to change the game feel whereas the AI wouldn’t. Another example of this is when AI is used to act as NPCs such as characters you would fight against in-game if the AI is too hard to beat it stops the game from being fun. This problem would easily be solved by user input and user testing.
