DDrawCompat is incompatible with GSync for The Sims 1. This causes the game to crash on startup if you have GSync enabled globally and the game is fullscreen. To fix this, you should add an exception for The Sims in the Nvidia Control Panel to run as the Fixed Refresh Monitor Technology.

The steps are:

1. Open Nvidia Control Panel
2. Manage 3D Settings
3. Program Settings
4. Click Add
5. Select The Sims 1 (You may have to browse for it)
6. Add Selected Program
7. Change Monitor Technology to Fixed Refresh
8. Click Apply
