Ratios Cheat Sheet - Factorio-Access/FactorioAccess GitHub Wiki

About this page

This page summarizes common ratios to use while factory building in version 2.0. It is inspired by the Factorio Cheat Sheet, which is a community-made webpage that is concise but heavily visual.

Common crafting ratios

These ratios refer to how many of each machine is needed for continuously producing specific items without any part of the system stalling.

For example: To make "electronic circuits", the right ratio is 3 "copper wire" assemblers feeding 2 "electronic circuit" assemblers.

Note that for these ratios, all assemblers should be assumed to be at tier 3, unless otherwise specified. This matters when comparing assemblers and chemical plants but it does not matter when all machines in the ratio are assemblers of the same tier.

List of abbreviations

Some items have long names, so they have been shortened for the lists on this page.

  • basic circuit = electronic circuit
  • advanced circuit = advanced electronic circuit
  • processor = processing unit
  • belt = regular transport belt
  • gear = iron gear wheel
  • wire = copper cable / copper wire

Machine speeds

  • The player crafts 1 per second
  • Assembler 1 crafts 0.5 per second
  • Assembler 2 crafts 0.75 per second
  • Assembler 3 crafts 1.25 per second
  • Chemical plant crafts 1 per second
  • Oil refinery crafts 1 per second

Science pack assemblers

  • Science pack assembler ratio: 5 automation, 6 logistic, 5 military, 12 chemical, 7 production, 7 utility, 0.5 space. This gives 75 science per minute with assembler 3 without modules for everything.

  • Science pack assembler ratio doubled: 10 automation, 12 logistic, 10 military, 24 chemical, 14 production, 14 utility, 1 space. This gives 150 science per minute with assembler 3 without modules for everything.

  • For reference, it is completely feasible to win the game with as little as 10 science per minute because you need only a few thousand science packs in total. Between 30 and 100 science per minute is a good casual goal.

  • 10 automation science assemblers require 1 gear assembler

  • 12 logistic science assemblers require 1 inserter, 0.5 belt, 1.5 gear assemblers

  • 10 military science assemblers require 3 AP bullet, 8 grenade, 1 wall assemblers

  • 24 chemical science assemblers require 0.7 sulfur plants, and 18 advanced circuit, 20 engine assemblers

  • 14 production science assemblers require 5 rail, 3.33 electric furnace, 10 productivity module assemblers

  • 14 utility science assemblers require 13.33 processor, 13.33 flying robot frame, 30 low density structure assemblers

  • 1 space science rocket silo requires 22 processor, 31.5 rocket fuel, 33 low density structure, 2 solar panel, 2 accumulator assemblers.

Basic item assemblers

  • 2 basic circuit assemblers require 3 copper wire assemblers
  • 1 belt assembler requires 1 gear assembler
  • 1 inserter assembler requires 1 basic circuit and 1 gear assemblers
  • 1 gear assembler at tier 2 requires 10 stone furnaces making iron plates
  • 1 wall assembler at tier 2 requires 24 stone furnaces making stone bricks

Circuit and module assemblers

  • 2 basic circuit assemblers require 3 copper wire assemblers
  • 6 advanced circuit assemblers require 1 copper wire, 1 basic circuit assemblers, and 1.25 plastic plants
  • 5 processor assemblers require 6 advanced circuit, 5 basic circuit assemblers
  • 1 tier 1 module assembler (any kind) requires 2 advanced circuit and 0.5 basic circuit assemblers
  • 1 tier 2 module assembler (any kind) requires 2 tier 1 module assemblers
  • 1 tier 3 module assembler (any kind) requires 2 tier 2 module assemblers
  • Therefore, 2 tier 3 module assembler (any kind) require 8.4 processor, 31 advanced circuit, 15 basic circuit assemblers, and 6.5 plastic plants

Transport belt info

  • Basic transport belt carries 15 items per second (total of both lanes) and has 4 maximum underground distance.
  • Fast transport belt carries 30 items per second (total of both lanes) and has 6 maximum underground distance.
  • Express transport belt carries 45 items per second (total of both lanes) and has 8 maximum underground distance.
  • It's common to group belts to form a Main Bus.
  • Tip: Belts and underground belt entrances/exits can be sideloaded.
  • Tip: Splitters can distribute or filter items across belts.

Mining and smelting

  • For all ores except for uranium, 1 basic belt can collect from 30 electric mining drills.
  • For iron ore and copper ore, 1 basic transport belt can support 48 stone furnaces, and similarly another basic transport belt can collect from 48 stone furnaces.
  • Stone is processed twice as fast as ores, so 1 basic transport can supply 24 stone furnaces making stone bricks.
  • Steel is processed five times as slowly as ores, so 1 basic transport can supply 9.6 stone furnaces making steel.
  • 1 stone furnace making steel needs exactly 1 stone furnace making iron plates. Therefore you can directly put an inserter between them.
  • Steel furnaces and electric furnaces have double the speed as stone furnaces.

Power Generators

Steam power

  • 1 boiler supplies 2 steam engines, producing 1.8 megawatts.
  • 1 offshore pump can supply 1200 units of water per second, which is enough for 200 boilers.
  • 1 basic transport belt that is saturated with coal can supply 34 boilers, producing 61.2 megawatts.
  • 1 unit of coal contains 4 megajoules of burner energy.
  • Wood provides half as much energy as coal.
  • Solid fuel provides 3 times as much energy as coal.
  • Rocket fuel provides 25 times as much energy as coal.

Solar power

  • Averaging over the day and night cycle on the planet of Nauvis, one solar panel supplies 42 kilowatts on average.
  • If you generate excess solar power during the day, you can fill accumulators, and then the accumulators can discharge during the night.
  • 25 solar panels and 21 accumulators guarantee a constant supply of 1.05 megawatts.
  • Tip: Solar power is great for mines. Based on the above numbers and ignoring modules, you can run 5 electric mining drills almost nonstop using 10 solar panels and 8 accumulators.
  • Tip: If you fill your mining drills with efficiency 1 modules, then you can run 23 mining drills nonstop using 10 solar panels and 8 accumulators.

Nuclear power

  • 1 nuclear reactor by itself produces 40 megawatts. It needs 4 heat exchangers and 7 steam turbines.
  • Tip: It is easier to just connect 2 turbines to each exchanger without involving any pipes. In that case, 1 nuclear reactor uses 8 turbines.
  • 2 nuclear reactors, placed wall to wall against each other, activate the neighbor bonus and thus give 80 megawatts each, which is 160 megawatts in total. This requires 16 heat exchangers, and 28 steam turbines when using pipes for steam.
  • 3 nuclear reactors in a row will produce 280 megawatts in total, 28 heat exchangers, and 49 steam turbines when using pipes for steam.
  • 4 nuclear reactors in a row will produce 400 megawatts in total, 40 heat exchangers, and 69 steam turbines when using pipes for steam.
  • 4 nuclear reactors in a 2 by 2 square will share more walls and maximize the neighbor bonus to yield 480 megawatts in total, requiring 48 heat exchangers, and 84 steam turbines when using pipes for steam.
