Natural Resources - Factorio-Access/FactorioAccess GitHub Wiki
Natural Resources
Resources that you can collect on Nauvis include wood from trees, water from rivers and coasts, stone and coal from rocks or ore patches, metal ores like iron and copper from concentrated patches, and oil from exposed wells. Dirt from the ground has no significant use because it has low concentrations of minerals.
Collecting Resources
Cutting trees can be done with a hand axe manually, or by mobile robots. Mining ores and rocks can also be done manually, although dedicated mobile robots or drilling machines are far more efficient. See the page for Mining for more on this.
Collecting significant amounts of water is only feasible with offshore pumps placed at coasts. Collecting oil is only feasible by building dedicated pumpjacks. Water and oil pumps never completely run out, although oil pumpjack yield eventually reduces to trickles.
Using resources
Wood and metals are useful for making tools and machines. Water and oil can be used for chemical processes that let you make advanced machines. With sufficient research and manufacturing, all these resources can be combined to make even a complete space ship.
The natural resources on Nauvis also present various means for generating electric power. Sunlight is the most straightforward option but requires manufacturing fairly complex components. Steam power is the simplest; water boilers can be fueled with wood, coal, or oil products. There are also uranium patches around, suggesting a possible pathway for nuclear power.
List of resources
Common Nauvis Resources
These resources are found on Nauvis in vanilla Factorio's base game:
- Water - The source of life, steam power, and chemical goodness.
- Wood - A basic fuel and crafting material, obtained by cutting trees.
- Coal - The product of plant material being naturally compacted and decayed over thousands of years. Useful as fuel source of a chemical agent.
- Oil - A mixture of organic materials being naturally compacted and decayed over thousands of years. It can be separated into various chemicals and fuels.
- Stone - A durable natural building material and insulator.
- Iron - A versatile metal that can be further refined into steel. Both are great for making durable machines.
- Copper - A soft metal that is a good electrical conductor.
- Uranium - A heavy radioactive metal that requires special extraction and processing techniques. It is not too dangerous on its own but it yields immense amounts of energy and formidable weapons.
Space Age Resources
In Factorio Space Age, you are able to explore the other planets near Nauvis and find new resources and technologies.
This list will be added when Space Age support for Factorio Access is completed.
Mod resources
It is popular for Factorio mods to add new resources and recipes that involve them. This is done to make the game more realistic or simply more complex. Every mod or mod family tends to have its own approach for how custom new resources change the balance and experience of the game. For mods that can be played right now, visit the wiki page for Compatible Other Mods.
