If you discover activation lock on a org owned device please follow these steps to remove.
- macOS 10.15 Catalina or later.
- Apple T2 Security Chip.
- Secure Boot Enabled.
- Disallow booting from external media.
- Two-factor authentication
- Be enrolled with an MDM
- DEP enrolled
- Turn on your Mac and immediately press and hold these two keys: Command (⌘) and R.
- Release the keys when you see an Apple logo, spinning globe.
- You will be prompted to enter the firmware password. (If you don't know this you will need to speak to MSS)
- Make sure your Mac is able to communicate with the Internet.
- Login to your Jamf pro and search for the computer that is activation locked.
- Select the Management tab and then Activation Lock Bypass Code. Click Show Activation Lock Bypass Code and make a note.
Once in Recovery Mode do not unlock the disk or you will not see the option.
- Once your laptop is in recovery mode In the top left corner you will see the Recovery Assistant.
- Select Erase Mac. Your mac will be wiped and restart.
- Once the laptop has restarted boot into recovery mode again.
- In the top left corner you will see the Recovery Assistant.
- When selecting this you can see the options Erase Mac or Activate with MDM key.
- Select Activate with MDM key.
- You will now get a Activation lock screen. Enter the Jamf Bypass code.
- Once complete the mac will display the Activation message.
- Proceed to install the macOS.
Please note that once this has been completed you will need to remove the laptop from Jamf manually.
If the mac has been already setup the only way to remove the FMM lock is to Erase the mac or get the iCloud owner to remove.
This check has been added to the Deployment check smart group in Jamf so please make sure this has passed before handing over the laptop to a user.
